The combination of power and better sound for your machine is part of what a sports exhaust system will give you. But before you decide to install a sports muffler or even the whole exhaust system, we think you should have an idea of how it works and what its structure is, so that you can choose the best option for your car. So, if you're ready, get prepared to know the basics of these car parts:
The function of an exhaust system is to remove the gases generated by combustion, reducing noise and contaminating emissions, without this system, the noise of combustion would be very loud and annoying. This is when the muffler with silencer appears. No matter how many exits the mufflers have, they offer several methods to do their job, being the restriction one the most used in original cars and also the cheapest, but one of the less efficient in the market.
The other two methods of silencing noise are absorption, which is a silencer with a chamber inside that is larger than the exhaust pipe and when the noise reaches that chamber, it spreads and loses speed/pressure, making it less loud. And finally, the reflection system, the most sophisticated system on the market and what it does is counteract the noise waves coming from the tube with other similar waves, but in the opposite direction, being the most effective method. There are also exhaust systems that have secondary silencers, called Helmholtz resonators and they do their job with the reflection method.
And now the most exciting question: Why does the muffler with silencer help us to improve the performance of the engine? The main reason is that when the gas reaches the chambers of the original mufflers,it creates a return flow because the amount of gas entering the chamber is greater than the one that can exit. Also, when there are secondary silencers, when the gas is thrown to the catalytic converter, more accumulation is generated in the exhaust, reducing the engine's strength, reason to think about modifying the whole system if the budget allows it.
However, when using sports mufflers with silencers, they increase the speed with which the gases are released, eliminating noise and rebound flows as much as possible, giving the engine more efficiency and less risk of future breakdowns.
