In any vehicle, temperatures can rise very quickly and overheat the machine, especially when we give it heavy work, and many times the factory radiator is not enough to keep the engine cool. Now, in the cars we tune, it is much more frequent to be struggling with the temperature and if we do not control this problem, we can have serious consequences, which completely spoil our project and nobody wants to throw away years of effort.
Although when we keep the original car, usually the factory radiator has under control the temperature, while in some models not so much. But when we tune, it becomes a requirement to improve the radiator, changing it for another one that has a higher capacity, because modifying the original one doesn’t make sense. The most we can do is put a quality coolant and fans with more power, but if we have problems of overheating, that will not be enough and we will only have temporary solutions, which in the long term will cost us a lot of money.
We will work hard to change our radiator, but we will have the performance we were looking for and without problems, which is what we really want, right? The first step is to empty all the antifreeze out of the old radiator and then disconnect it completely. Remember to help the environment by dumping the liquid into a bucket and not letting it go down the pipes. Now that you have it ready, you only have to unscrew the fan and take it out, the same with the radiator and you have finished the uninstallation, but it is very important that you be careful so you don´t deform the supports or damage the parts that lie around.
When installing a new radiator, we often find that it does not fit properly and that we therefore need a universal bracket and a larger tubing kit for a much higher flow rate. To set it up, just follow the same steps, screw the radiator, then the fan, connect it and add the antifreeze. It is essential to mention that you should never use water for the radiator and the best antifreeze we can recommend is organic because it gives you up to twice the performance in miles and protects your entire cooling system.
